Perfect Teeth

How beautiful teeth can make you more confident

We all know the power of a ‘Hollywood’ smile – from the pearly white shade, to the aesthetically pleasing straightness that can give a grin such impact. If you have issues with your teeth, or you’re self conscious about your smile, then there is evidence to suggest that this could be holding you back, not necessarily because of the effect it has on others but the way it can undermine your own confidence.

Facts and stats

A Bupa survey of around 1,000 people in the UK found that most of us believe having great teeth has a positive impact on our lives. More than half of those polled said they felt that good teeth could help someone get a better job and around the same number believed that a confident smile could be a factor in making more friends. When it came to romance, respondents also felt that beautiful teeth were important and three fifths of those were of the opinion that having bad teeth could actually be obstructive for anyone looking to find a new partner.

A similar survey carried out by Oasis Dental Care found that around a quarter of people weren’t happy with their teeth and two thirds felt this would negatively impact on their confidence. 46% were worried about the impact of bad teeth on getting a job and 53% were concerned that bad teeth might prevent them from finding a partner.

You can change your smile

So, the message is that a significant number of us find the current state of our teeth distressing and feel confidence is negatively affected by the way we look. Of course, the upside here is that it’s perfectly possible to do something to correct the problems that most of us experience with an imperfect smile. From tooth whitening treatments, to Invisalign braces to correct positioning problems, there are plenty of solutions where good corrective dentistry can leave you with a better smile and more confidence too. Here are just a few of the situations in which being more confident about your teeth could help you get ahead:

  • Job interviews
  • Going on dates
  • Networking
  • Meeting in-laws for the first time
  • Getting married
  • Moving to a new town
  • Starting a new job
  • Feeling more relaxed around new people
  • Making new friends

It’s so simple to correct dental problems that there’s no reason why anyone shouldn’t be confident with their smile, whatever situation you are in.
